CHAPTER 21

The final course of the gala dinner had been served, marking the culmination of an evening that had been both demanding and exhilarating for Dani and Arthur. As they oversaw the clearing of dessert plates and the preparation of after-dinner coffees and liqueurs, Greg Thornton entered the kitchen, his face alight with satisfaction and gratitude.

“Dani, Arthur,” Greg began, his voice brimming with enthusiasm, “I just had to come in and personally congratulate you both. The feedback from the guests has been overwhelmingly positive. They’re saying it’s the best meal they’ve ever had at a gala!”

Dani, wiping her hands on her apron, smiled at the compliment. “Thank you, Greg. We’re thrilled to hear that. It was our pleasure to cater such a prestigious event.”

Arthur, with a modest nod, added, “We’re glad everything went according to plan. Dani and I, plus your chef’s kitchen team, worked pretty hard to ensure that every detail was perfect.”

Greg, beaming with pride, relayed some of the comments from the guests. “One of our patrons, an esteemed art collector, said the herb-crusted rack of lamb was a culinary masterpiece. Another guest, a well-known critic, was particularly impressed with the balance and creativity of your menu. And everyone is raving about the duck confit crostinis from the appetizer selection. You’ve truly outdone yourselves.”

“Thank you. It’s always great to know that our work was appreciated,” Dani said. The praise was music to their ears, a validation of their hard work and dedication. Dani and Arthur exchanged a glance, sharing a moment of pride and accomplishment.

“There’s more,” Greg continued, his excitement palpable. “Several guests have been asking about the caterers. They’re interested in hiring you for their own events. I was wondering if you could provide me with some of your business cards? I’d like to place them on the tables. It’s a great opportunity for you to gain more high-profile clients.”

Dani’s eyes lit up at the prospect. “Absolutely, Greg. That would be fantastic. We have some cards with us. I’ll bring them out to you in a moment.”

Arthur echoed her sentiments. “This is a wonderful opportunity, Greg. Thank you for offering to help promote our services.”

As Greg excused himself to return to the guests, Dani quickly got a stack of VIP Catering business cards from the large leather case she always carried with her to catering jobs. She walked into the dining room and handed them to Greg. While she was there, he introduced her to the guests, all of whom immediately stood up and gave her a standing ovation. Dani felt a surge of excitement about the future prospects this exposure might bring.

She went back into the kitchen and Arthur and Dani watched through a kitchen door window as Greg placed their cards on the tables in the dining area, a gesture that signified their success and the potential for new avenues in their catering career. As the evening wound down, they felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Not only had they risen to the challenge of
